About Us
As 2023 closed, The East County Community Times celebrated its fifth year of publication. In 2024, it is now beginning its sixth year. The East County Community Times was established as the next generation photojournalism publication. The Herald, now retired, was a hard copy publication. The Times is an online publication with a similar style to the East County Herald featuring an array of photographs showcasing East County events as well as San Diego County events.
The Times currently has local columnists as well as elected officials as writers for the Times. Readers are encouraged to inform Times staff about events to cover. The Times Team covers local Chamber events; local Council meetings; local, State, and Federal elected representatives; non-profit organization events; East County community signature events; individual human interest stories, and other events of interest. The Times Team is happy to add readers to their e-mailing list.
Dee Dean, owner/publisher of the East County Herald, retired in 2018 after 20 years of publishing at which time The Herald name was also retired. Jay Renard was a photojournalist for ten years with The Herald. The Community Times was founded in 2019 to continue the photojournalist nature of The Herald publication.
